Independence Day
I’m a few weeks late posting this for the USA’s July 4th Independence Day, but my home country is just one of many dozens that celebrate independence from former British colonial rule.
Looking around the map, only the USA gained independence in the 1700s. Every other country shown gained independence in the 1900s. A few within my own lifetime!
The map is, for some odd reason, overlooking Canada (1873), New Zealand (1856), and Australia (1901).
Makes me wonder if a few of the remaining overseas territories will become independent in the 2000s? Or 2100s?

Australia (and New Zealand) still have the King of the UK (Charles) as Head of State. The king’s representative in Australia is the Governor General. Australia is a Constitutional Monarchy, and is not “Independent”.
